I
got introduced to racing by my father. who took
us to races when I was a kid. Even at an age of
12 or so I was keeping down qualifying times and finishing
positions of the heats and features.
Upon my growth into
manhood I still loved racing. I walked three miles
in 1981 to get to the EM Club at Fort Jackson SC just
to watch the Daytona 500. Then life sidetracked
me from racing all I did was watch on TV. Then one day
I stumbled upon a sprint car race on TNN. I still
have some of the early tapes from Devils Bowl and Memphis
and of course Knoxville.
I got the fever again
and started looking for tracks in my area and found
that there was one back of Ashland KY. Then I moved
to Lexington KY and one night said OK I'm gone and off
to Eldora I
went.
The last time that
I had been to a sprint car race, the were turning 16's
for a quarter mile. And as I was walking through
the parking lot ill never forget that I heard them day
that Rocky Hodges had just qualified at 13.... I
was on edge and from that day on I've been around it
one way or another.
